Why Don’t You Just Call the Cops?

A new article in the New York Times by Matthew Desmond (NYT) and Andrew Papachristos (Yale) deals with whether there is evidence or not for the “Ferguson Effect.” Their research “shows that residents of Milwaukee’s neighborhoods, especially residents of black neighborhoods, were far less likely to report crime to the police after Mr. Jude’s beating was reported in the press and the subsequent fallout shook the city.”

I encourage people to read the piece and the study (American Sociological Review).
